Andrew Gore secures successful outcome for Waterbeach Internal Drainage Board

Andrew Gore, instructed by Ward Gethin Archer of Ely, acted for the Waterbeach Internal Drainage Board, responding successfully to the first drainage rates appeal to the Valuation Tribunal since 2019. Tim Jones of Carter Jonas acted as the IDB’s expert witness. The appeal related to the revaluation of agricultural land  following the erection of a glasshouses complex on formerly bare farmland.  Valuation for drainage rates purposes is based on the complex and arcane provisions of  the Land Drainage Act 1991. The revaluation increased the land’s value under the Act from £4,353 to £451,912 (sic).

Andrew said “Having been the fee-paid East of England Regional Judge of the Agricultural Land and Land Drainage Division of the First Tier Tribunal (Property Chamber) until 2021, and retiring from practice as a barrister  later this year, it seemed appropriate that one of my last appearances would be in the first drainage rates appeal for many years, and good to be on the winning side.”
